The MIGRATEST© Suite platform unites several programs that were developed within the framework of a REACH project
The program MIGRATEST© XTR (“extrusion”) can model the scenario of an extrusion of a plastic material and its subsequent cooling in e.g. a water bath and quickly estimate how high the contamination of the water bath by migrants from the cooling polymer is. The result makes it possible to estimate whether the cooling water needs to be cleaned or not.
The software program MIGRATEST© SKN (“skin”) can be used to model the migration of a substance from a plastic material into and through the skin when the corresponding substance constants (of the individual skin layers and the plastic) are known. Here, both the complex structure of the skin and the specific plastic-skin contact properties can be taken into account. Unless you have specific data, at least the “worst case” for a substance can be calculated quickly. In combination with “Pampa” experiments (i.e. testing with the help of artificial skin systems), even more realistic estimates can be made here.
The third program of the SUITE platform is MIGRATEST© SPH (“spherical”), which was designed for the calculation of the migration of a substance from polymer granulate into a liquid contact medium (water, solvent, etc.). The software takes into account the size of the specific contact area between the granules and the contact medium and the fact that migration is reduced due to mutual contact between the granule particles.
